Job Walkthrough: Final Stages of an Active Site

This video captures a typical walkthrough on an active job site as it nears completion. At this stage, a seasoned project manager knows exactly what to focus on—and just as importantly, what not to waste time on.

  1. Don’t be redundant. Your team has already signed off on completed areas, so don’t get lost reanalyzing every detail. This walkthrough is about spotting what doesn’t belong—not rechecking what’s already been approved.

  2. Verify your work remains intact. Job sites are fluid environments, and things can change after your last pass. Ask yourself:

    • Has someone leaned equipment or materials against a finished wall, causing damage?

    • Did another trade—electricians, plumbers, or carpenters—come through and create new issues in your work?

These are the types of details that can cost you money if you’re not actively looking for them. No one is obligated to report these changes to you, and if you’re unaware, you’ll eat the cost. The project doesn’t pause just because you weren’t paying attention.

Black Card Advice:

Walk your site relentlessly. Document everything—every change, every new issue, every potential problem. Your protection lies in your awareness.
